The British Fashion Council’s NEWGEN sponsorship awards are always a hotspot for emerging British design talent. With alumni including the likes of Alexander McQueen, Jonathan Saunders, Christopher Kane, Erdem, and Mary Katrantzou, Grazia Live was excited to be reporting from today’s event!
We are delighted to announce the 13 recipients of this year’s sponsorship, who will receive financial backing towards catwalk shows and exhibitions showcasing their work. Sadly Sarah Mower was unwell, so the fabulous Melanie Rickey announced today’s winners:
Catwalk sponsorship: Michael van der Ham, J.W. Anderson, Simone Rocha.
Presentation sponsorship: Christopher Raeburn, J.JS Lee, Lucas Nascimento, Marques Almeida, Nasir Mazhar, Sister by Sibling.
Exhibition sponsorship: Palmer//Harding, Huishan Zhang; Lim Cooper, Sophia Webster.

Sarah Mower MBE, The BFC’s Ambassador for Emerging Talent commented on the ‘unique collaborative culture’ of NEWGEN, and commented on the fast-paced nature of the scheme:
'It never ceases to amaze me how fast NEWGEN winners learn - and how far they can go in such a short time. That accelerated learning process has much to do with designers realising how much is expected of them when they enter NEWGEN’.
Mary Homer, Managing Director of Topshop, added:
‘NEWGEN lies at the heart of London Fashion Week and over the last ten years has supported and developed some of fashion's most successful and greatest talents. I'm delighted that Topshop will continue to be involved in the sponsorship over the next ten years, and I wish this season's winners the best of luck.’
We’re thrilled that some of our fave brands including J.W Anderson and Simone Rocha have received funding and can’t wait to see the fruits of their labour at September’s London Fashion Week!
