Bad news: it looks like it’s going to rain all weekend long (boo hiss etc). Good news? You can spend virtually two whole days in a cinema, dry, warm and without that guilty sense of wasting a sunny June weekend indoors.

 

And what a weekend of perfectly pleasurable big screen viewing it will be, as three hit movies are released tomorrow (Friday 15 June). Whether you’re a fan of big-budget blockbusters, indie Brit flicks or you simply want to gawk at Robert Pattinson (and who could blame you?), this is the weekend to do it. If you’re after… all singing, all dancing, rock and rolling extravaganza: Rock of Ages

Tom Cruise channels his inner sex-god as Stacee Jaxx, a rock ‘n roll legend with a penchant for whiskey, women andleather chaps. He is called to perform at the once-great Bourbon Room, run by Alec Baldwin. Catherine Zeta Jones isan activist intent on shutting the club down, whilst small-town gal Sherrie (Julianne Hough) just wants to be a singer. Thecast sing the soundtrack - covers of Joan Jett, Journey and Jon Bon Jovi.

 

If you’re after… an RPatz fix with a twist: Cosmopolis 

As you’ve seen in this week’s  issue of Grazia (page 113 to be precise), Robert Pattinson is leaving his fangs in the past, as he takes on the grittiest role of his career. In DavidCronenberg’s thriller Cosmopolis, he plays Eric Parker, a womanising banker whose life crumbles as the stock marketdoes. We follow a day of his life, chauffeured around New York in a limo, embroiled in a dark, seedy world. 

 

 

If you’re after… a feel-good dose of British pride: Fast Girls

Someone say Olympic fever? Lenora Crichlow stars as Shania, a champion relay runner in this Noel Clarke-directed drama. Think Bend it Like Beckham - but with running. New girl Shania has a tough time fitting into the team’s close-knit circle (bitchy girl Lisa doesn’t make life easy, especially when Shania falls for the team physio Carl). Oo-er.
