We're already feeling giddy this morning with the news that Karl Lagerfeld is creating his very own beauty range with Shu Uemura and now we have another oh-so-fabulous collaboration on the horizon. Brace yourselves, fash fans: H&M is launching a collection with Maison Martin Margiela! *scream*
After major collabs with the glossy likes of Lanvin, Versace, Stella McCartney, Jimmy Choo and most recently Marni, we're impressed to see the Swedish high-street chain mixing it up by going down the avant-garde route. As WWD reports, Maison Martin Margiela is the latest guest designer to produce a one-off collection although a spokeswoman for H&M in Stockholm has refused to confirm the rumours.
Maison Martin Margiela Spring Summer 2012
It was back in 1989 that the French fashion house was founded by the mysterious Monsieur Margiela. He quickly built a reputation as one of the most creative - and press-shy - designers, wowing the Fash Pack with cool, if a bit uncomfortable, catwalk shows, famously minimalist collections and often surreal garments. How could we forget the plastic power shoulders, cleft-toed boots and disco ball armour, par exemple? Well, exactly.
The designer remained notoriously private, refusing to give interviews, avoiding cameras and never taking a catwalk bow. He staged the ultimate disappearing act when he exited his eponymous label in October 2009, losing the rights to their own name. Maison Martin Margiela is now controlled by Renzo Rosso, the Italian maestro behind Diesel and DSquared, with the collections being created by an in-house team.
Beloved by fashionistas, MMM clothes are regarded as the ultimate in intellectual style so we're intrigued to see what delights the collab will offer — take a look at the French fashion house's wackiest hits in the gallery above for a clue. While we wait, do let us know: what would YOU like to see from Margiela for H&M?
