We’ve been excited about the Daphne Guinness auction since the first moment we heard Daphers was putting some of her incredible wardrobe under the hammer. As well as Alexander McQueen, Daphne has chosen pieces from Christian Dior, Lacroix, Gareth Pugh, Christopher Kane and Balenciaga to sell, in order to help raise an estimated $100,000 for the Isabella Blow Foundation.
And now the catalogue is here! The catalogue features images of the pieces, along with price estimates (more of which below) and notes from a variety of the designers involved – Sarah Burton declares ‘I’m sure it will be a huge success. Love Sarah x’ and Gareth Pugh writes that ‘There could be no better way to honour Isabella’ memory, and no better person to keep it safe’. Aw, bless. Daphne, meanwhile, illustrates some of her favourite items in the collection, citing the amazing gold McQueen angel heels, by saying ‘angel heels are exquisite and remind her Lee’s interest in the celestial’.
So – the important bits. Sizes are small, of course, not only in clothing but in footwear, too, with shoes coming in at a size 37. And the prices? Well, it depends on how the bidding goes, of course, but the reserve of some pieces like a dramatic Lacroix opera coat starts at £600. Which is almost affordable, when you think about it.
